Pollution is a huge problem all over the world. It is a problem that is only getting worse with larger populations and more advanced technology. We only have one planet to live on, and we are damaging it, which affect not only us, but future generations as well. The main damage from pollution is on the earth, but it also is affecting the health for humans.
In my opinion, this issue is big because I want to keep living as long as possible, but that will be hard for future generations if the earth is unhealthy. I would like to see some substitutions for oil because cars are one of the major contributions to pollution. I also think recycling and composting play a big part in keeping the planet clean because then you dont need to throw as much garbage away into a landfill.
- 1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage, storm water, and industrial waste are dumped into US waters annually.
- Half of the world has to deal with the polluted drinking waters. A lot of people can't just go to their filtered water dispensing fridge. Water based diseases cause between 5 and 10 million deaths each year.
- OVER 80% of items in landfills can be recycled...but they're not.
- Vehicle exhaust contributes roughly 60% of all carbon monoxide emissions nationwide, and up to 95% in cities.
- Pollution causes Global Warming!!
- Since 1990, yearly emissions of carbon dioxide have gone up by about 6 billion metric tons worldwide, which is more than a 205 increase. Almost all of that increase is due to human activities.
